Just A Thought

"Too many people spend money they don’t have, to buy things they don’t want, to impress people they don’t like."
~ Will Rogers

How true that is.

Hi there-A very enlightning comment. Now I do live frugally, people have to take me as they find me, if they don't like my house or car or possesions, then thats their problem, not mine!! Have a wonderful Sunday my dear!

How perceptive that is.

I'm slowly starting to realise how people try to define themselves by what they have, not by what they are, think, feel, do. And the sad part is, when you place so much focus on these external things people lose sight of and fail to appreciate the most priceless thing of all (someone's spirit, their soul, their very person, whatever you want to call it).

Even sadder than that is how the whole nation seems to be gripped by a materialistic frenzy. But to what end?

@ Sharon Rose. I hate the fact that people feel that their value lies in what they possess. I have the things I have because I enjoy them and yes, they do tell others about me but that's the point, they are MY choices, not things I've chosen to impress anybody with. Hope you have a good Sunday too :)

@ Jade. I've started to become far more discerning about my friends now; if our spirits don't match then a friendship will never be a true, close friendship. As far as the materialistic frenzy goes, I believe advertising agencies and glossy magazines have a lot to answer for. I was recently asked whether I wanted to join forces with a friend and start something in advertising "to milk the poor cows who believe in the hype". I turned it down.

Once in a while I come across a quote that I really identify with. This is one of those, and has made it into my quote book, which I started twenty five years ago in an old school exercise book, and is still going strong.

A very perceptive thought, indeed, Sharon - thank you.

@ Caroline. Your quote book sounds like a lovely idea :)

@ Apieceofwood. It got me thinking too and I think that it's especially apt now as we head towards Christmas and lots of people will be spending money they don't have to buy presents for people they don't really like much and that aren't even wanted.

@ Laura. :)

Lovely thoughtful quote. I myself wouldn't dream of purchasing anything just to impress anyone... I couldn't afford to do that anyhow. I only buy things I need and can make use of... but I am sure its true of others... sad, but true...
Thank you also sharon j for following my blog...it made my day to see you were now following my blog.. xxx
Also read about your lack of passion regarding the writing. I do think you have already been given a lot of helpful advice. I find I am like that about most things these days.. if I do not have the passion to do something then I will not do it... if I can get out of not doing it (does that make sense?) I can be so involved in doing something that I am so passionate about it almost becomes an obsession and then for whatever reason it just runs of out steam and like you it just 'stops' and I have no idea why... I find the only way to deal with it is to go with it and just leave it for a while until the passion becomes fired up again.. I have been like this for the past four years or so and I do think it could be something to do with the menopause which really messes with the hormones.. its almost like mood swings.... so I think 'little terraced house' may have a good point....
